Cytûn Welcomes Lindsay Whittle as Wales’s Newest MS

Cytûn – Churches Together in Wales – joins in welcoming Lindsay Whittle to the Senedd following his victory in the Caerphilly by‑election held on 23 October 2025. Whittle stood as the Plaid Cymru candidate and won with approximately 47 % of the vote, in a contest marked by a 50.43 % turnout, one of the highest ever in a Senedd by‑election.

With the Senedd general election looming in May 2026, this outcome is widely seen as a key moment in Welsh politics, signaling shifting political currents in constituencies that had long been Labour strongholds.

Dr Cynan Llwyd, General Secretary of Cytûn, welcomed Mr. Whittle warmly, saying:

“We are glad to see democracy flourishing in Caerphilly, and we welcome Lindsay to his new role in public service. We thank all the candidates and volunteers for their commitment to the democratic process, especially at such a pivotal moment for Wales. We also hold in our hearts the family and friends of the late Hefin David, whose passing prompted this by‑election, and we continue to keep them in our thoughts and prayers.”

As the national ecumenical body in Wales, Cytûn affirms its support for the democratic process and stands ready to work with all representatives in the interest of faith, community, and justice.
