Following the news over the weekend of the attack on members of the Jewish Community in Australia, Dr Cynan Llwyd General Secretary of Cytûn: Churches Together in Wales has shared a message on behalf of the ecumenical Christian community.

“In the darkest period of the year, we are deeply grieved by the violent attack on members of the Jewish community on Bondi Beach yesterday. Such acts of hatred wound not only those directly targeted but all who long for peace, justice, and the dignity of every human being.

“At a time when shadows feel long, we are reminded of the Gospel’s assurance that “the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:5). We stand in solidarity with our Jewish neighbours, holding them in prayer and committing ourselves anew to the work of compassion, reconciliation, and the defence of all who suffer prejudice or fear.

“Later this week, representatives of Cytûn look forward to joining as guests of the Executive, Council and the Rabbi of the Cardiff United Synagogue at the lighting of the Menorah to be held at the Senedd. There, we will stand united in opposition to hatred and discrimination and in the enduring of hope of our faith and shared heritage.

“May the light of God guide us all toward healing and the courage to confront hatred in all its forms.”
