Opportunity to Shape the Future of Fair Trade in Wales
Applications are now invited for the role of Chair of Fair Trade Wales, a voluntary leadership position offering a significant opportunity to contribute to justice, global solidarity and ethical trade in Wales. The Chair provides strategic leadership to Fair Trade Wales, supports the Board, and helps strengthen partnerships with civil society, government and faith communities. The closing date for applications is 24 February 2026.
Fair Trade Wales plays a vital role in promoting fair and ethical trading practices, working with communities, schools, local authorities, retailers and faith groups to ensure that trade puts people and the planet before profit.

Christian Roots of the Fair Trade Movement
The modern fair trade movement has strong Christian foundations. In the UK, Christian organisations such as Christian Aid and CAFOD were among the founding members of the Fairtrade Foundation in 1992. Churches and congregations have continued to lead locally and nationally, linking fair trade with Christian commitments to justice, human dignity and love of neighbour.
This heritage resonates strongly with Cytûn’s commitment to Christian unity and shared action on social, economic and global justice. Engagement with Fair Trade Wales represents an important way in which Christian voices continue to shape ethical public policy in Wales.
Dr Cynan Llwyd, General Secretary of Cytûn, said:
“Fair Trade Wales builds on the long-standing contribution of Christians and churches to the fair trade movement. Ethical trade has long been a practical expression of Christian discipleship and global solidarity. This role is particularly significant for Cytûn’s wider policy work, where faith, justice and public life intersect, and offers a valuable opportunity for promoting ethical trade in Wales.”
