For Release 00:01 29th July 2025

As the Church in Wales gathers for the election of its 15th Archbishop, Cytûn – Churches Together in Wales – extends its prayers, support, and warm encouragement to the Electoral College and to the entire Anglican community in Wales. This significant moment in the life of the Church follows the retirement of Archbishop Andrew John, and the meeting of the Electoral College at St Pierre Church and Hotel in Chepstow from 29 July will be a time of reflection, discernment, and spiritual commitment.

Cytûn celebrates the vital role the Archbishop of Wales plays, not only within the Anglican tradition, but also in wider Welsh public and ecumenical life. As members of the Electoral College come together from across the six dioceses, representing clergy and laity alike, Cytûn stands alongside them in hope and prayer. We recognise the depth of responsibility and the sacred trust placed in their hands.

The Revd Dr Jennifer Hurd, Chair of Cytûn, said:
“The Church in Wales is a much-loved and valued friend within the ecumenical movement we hold the Electoral College and all who serve the Church in Wales in our prayers during this time of choosing new leadership. This election is not just a moment for the Anglican family, but a time for all Christians in Wales to reflect on our shared calling to serve God’s people in unity and love. The Church in Wales has been a steadfast friend to the ecumenical movement, and we look forward to continuing this journey together with the new Archbishop.”

Dr Cynan Llwyd, General Secretary of Cytûn, added:
“The role of Archbishop carries deep spiritual and pastoral significance. Cytûn will continue to work closely with the new Archbishop in nurturing ecumenical cooperation, interfaith dialogue, and a shared public Christian voice rooted in compassion and justice.”

Cytûn encourages its member churches and communities to keep this process in their prayers and to support our Anglican friends with love and solidarity. We look forward to welcoming and working alongside the new Archbishop as they take up the mantle of leadership, grounded in faith and committed to the flourishing of the whole Church in Wales.
