Cytûn – Churches Together in Wales – welcomes the publication of the Evangelical Alliance’s new report Faith in Wales (2025), which provides a timely and comprehensive picture of the role that faith communities play in the life of our nation.

Building on the original 2008 Faith in Wales study, this refreshed report shows how churches remain deeply embedded in local communities across Wales offering support to those in need, strengthening social cohesion, and contributing significantly to the economy and wellbeing of our communities. The research estimates that faith communities contribute at least £250 million a year to the Welsh economy through voluntary activity, paid staff, and the provision of community spaces.
The report also highlights how 97% of faith communities are engaged in some form of social action – including foodbanks, family support, activities for young people, and help for those experiencing homelessness. It calls for continued collaboration between faith groups and public services, and for improved access to funding for community buildings that often serve as vital local hubs.
Looking ahead to the Senedd launch
The Faith in Wales report will be formally launched at the Senedd, with contributions from Baroness Eluned Morgan MS, First Minister of Wales, and representatives from across the faith spectrum, including Dr Cynan Llwyd, General Secretary of Cytûn, who will address the event.
Speaking ahead of the launch, Dr Cynan Llwyd said:
“This new report underlines what so many of us already know – that faith communities are at the heart of Welsh life. They bring people together, serve those most in need, and help sustain the fabric of our towns and villages.
“Cytûn looks forward to continuing to work with the Evangelical Alliance, the Welsh Government, and partners from across faith traditions to ensure that this invaluable contribution is recognised and supported in the years ahead.”
Cytûn congratulates the Evangelical Alliance in Wales on this important and insightful piece of research, and encourages policymakers, local authorities, and community leaders to engage with its findings.
