Dr Cynan Llwyd, General Secretary

Cynan is a native of Aberystwyth but now lives in Grangetown in Cardiff with his wife Rachel and their two sons. He is a deacon at Ebeneser Welsh Congregational Church in Cardiff and one of the leaders of Angor Grangetown, one of the pioneer initiatives of the Union of Welsh Independents. He studied Welsh at Cardiff University and has an MPhil from Aberystwyth University and a PhD from Cardiff University where he researched The Doctrine of the Second Coming and the Millennium in the work of some of the Welsh Puritans and their social implications in Wales. He has extensive experience of working with churches and charities in Wales. He worked as a pastoral assistant at St Michael’s and St Mary’s churches, Aberystwyth, before being appointed Children and Young People’s Officer for Literature Wales. He has worked for Christian Aid as South Wales Regional Coordinator and then Acting Head and then served as Head of Tearfund in Wales. He began his work as General Secretary of Cytun in July 2024. He is also an author, Gwasg Y Lolfa having published two of his novels for young people and his third novel is about to be published by Llyfrau Broga.

Iestyn Davies, Policy Officer

Iestyn Davies is an experienced leader with a rich background in policy and public affairs, most notably in education and business, but also within the field of health. He served as CEO of ColegauCymru, advocating for further education colleges in Wales, and led the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) Wales, supporting small enterprises. As Pro Vice-Chancellor at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD), he advanced academic initiatives and community engagement. Originally from Merthyr Tydfil and born and brought up in the ranks of the Salvation Army, Iestyn is a keen advocate of ecumenism and building and strengthening relationships between the diverse faith communities of Wales, and in particular, in their contribution in the public sphere.

Sasha Perriam, Administrator and Personal Assistant to the General Secretary

Sasha was brought up in Groesfaen. She learned Welsh as a second language and studied a postgraduate coiurse in Welsh and Subtitling at Lampeter University. She joined Cytûn in 2003. Prior to joining Cytûn, Sasha lived in Bourges, France – working on community and social projects. She also taught English to French students and has completed a course in TEFL. She has worked in the office of the Church in Wales and the office of the Chief Executive of the Labour Party in Wales. She has also worked for the company Gerald Eve, in the office of the Minister for Education in Welsh Government and in the Academi Gymreig.  Sasha enjoys music, swimming, films and running.
